Among the few spots in downtown Jeonju offering a panoramic view of the city lights, Chimyeongjasan stands out with its cliff-top observatory.
Notably, it’s conveniently located near attractions like Hanok Village and the filming location of the drama “Twenty-Five Twenty-One,” making it an ideal sightseeing route.
Accessible even for beginner hikers, Chimyeongjasan offers a rewarding night view experience for all visitors to Jeonju.

Path to Chimyeongjasan Observatory in Jeonju
As you hike, encountering places associated with Catholicism, such as a priest’s cemetery and pilgrims’ trail, a sense of reverence pervades. Upon nearing exhaustion, you’ll reach the Mountain Memorial Cathedral.
Climbing the stairs along the exterior wall of the cathedral reveals a vast courtyard and a bamboo field sprawling like a barrier, with several more stairs visible. Ascending these stairs finally leads to the observatory.
In the early to mid-2010s, visitors used to enjoy the view from a massive cliff without any wooden decks. However, in the late 2010s, an observatory was constructed, transforming the experience from precarious cliff-edge viewing to comfortable observation from wooden decks.
With tripods set up on these decks, one can capture magnificent night views of Jeonju. As the spot has gained popularity, especially on clear days, arriving early to secure a spot is advisable.
Captivating Night Views of Jeonju
As dusk approaches, Jeonju reveals its magnificent night view, casting a spellbinding atmosphere.
Observing the luminous trails left by passing vehicles, resembling glowing arrows, adds to the allure, making this spot a favorite among both locals and photographers.
For budding photographers keen on night photography, a visit on a clear day is highly recommended. As you descend from enjoying the night view, the mountain path grows notably darker.
Therefore, ensuring safety is paramount; carry a bright lantern if possible, or rely on the flashlight of your phone. While seasoned hikers may navigate the darkness easily, travelers from afar should prepare a reliable light source as a precaution.
