Ambrosia Cafe Review: Ulsanbawi Rock View in Sokcho, Korea

Introduction

In this post, I will share a review of ‘Ambrosia cafe’ with a stunning view of Ulsanbawi Rock.

When visiting the Sokcho and Goseong areas in Gangwon Province, most people might head to ocean-view cafés, given the allure of the East Sea. However, what if there’s a café with a mountain view instead? And not just any mountain, but one with a direct view of Ulsanbawi Rock? There’s a café between Goseong and Sokcho in Gangwon Province that offers a view that might be even more spectacular than the seaside.

The name of the café is Ambrosia, or ‘The Ambrosia.’ Located within the Sono Delpino Resort, what unique features does this place offer?

The Ambrosia Cafe Visit Information

  • Address: 10th Floor, Sono Felice Delpino EAST, 1153 Misiryeongyet-gil, Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province
  • Operating Hours: Daily 08:00 AM – 09:00 PM
  • Parking: Available

Although located in Goseong, it is very close to Sokcho, making it easily accessible from there. It’s conveniently located near the Sokcho IC, making it ideal to visit by car or rental vehicle. Plus, there’s free parking available.

The Ambrosia Cafe is on the 10th floor of the East Tower within the resort. Park in front of the building, enter, and take the elevator to the top floor.

Though we haven’t seen it ourselves yet, you can reportedly witness the sunrise coloring Ulsanbawi Rock red from this café every winter. The timing is perfect since the café opens just before sunrise during this season. If you have the chance, visit in winter for this spectacle. However, it tends to get very crowded, akin to a bustling market.

Enter the address into your navigation system and you’ll find a parking lot like this in front of the building. Parking is free, so feel free to park and head inside. Make sure to enter the East Tower of the building.

To reach Ambrosia Cafe, enter the building and take the elevator to the 10th floor. Park your car, and as you enter what looks like an underground parking area, you’ll see the elevator.

When the elevator doors open, you’ll be greeted with a stunning view. The photo above was taken with a wide-angle lens, making Ulsanbawi Rock appear farther away than it actually is. In person, it looks more like the photo below.

Among cafés with large glass windows, it’s hard to find one with a more spectacular view in Korea. Enjoying a cup of coffee while gazing at Ulsanbawi Rock makes this place a must-visit.

However, to enjoy this beautiful view, you’ll need to purchase a coffee or other desserts. Given the amazing view, the prices are a bit high.

The prices are higher compared to other cafés, which is understandable given the Ulsanbawi Rock view. Still, be prepared for the higher cost when you visit.

The café offers a selection of small desserts. Instead of elaborate sweets, the focus is on simple and elegant treats.

We ordered iced Americano, lemonade, and blueberry bread. Due to the high prices, we didn’t have high expectations for the taste, as it seemed to be more about paying for the view.

However, we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the drinks and desserts were. The lemonade was the best I’ve ever had, and the blueberry bread was simple yet flavorful and enjoyable.

Despite not expecting much, the blueberry bread delivered on the basic but delightful blueberry flavor.

A Must-Visit Café in Sokcho

If you’re planning a trip to Sokcho, skip the usual ocean-view cafés and head to The Ambrosia for the best view of Ulsanbawi Rock. The prices are high, but the quality of the drinks and desserts, combined with the view, makes it worth it.

Given how crowded it can get, especially in the mornings, I recommend visiting early for a light brunch experience.
