Hotel Du Nord in Interlaken Review

Overview

In this post, I’ll be reviewing Hotel Du Nord in Interlaken, known for its good value among local hotels. It’s not too cheap to compromise on comfort, nor too expensive to break the bank.

As it was our honeymoon, we opted for a moderately priced hotel, and Hotel Du Nord was perfect. Its proximity to Interlaken Ost station made it convenient for accessing the Jungfrau region.

Hotel Du Nord Location and Check-In Information

  • Check-In: 3:00 PM (early check-in available)
  • Check-Out: 11:00 AM

Hotel Du Nord is close to Interlaken Ost station and the largest supermarket, Coop, making it ideal for grabbing groceries or enjoying a beer back at the hotel.

Room Rates (Standard Twin Room, May 2022)

We visited during the off-season, so rates were lower. In peak season (June-August), prices will likely be higher. Despite this, the room rates were reasonable compared to nearby hotels, which were over CHF 400.

Bathroom Review

The bathroom, like many in Europe, was dry-style and well-maintained. It didn’t have a bidet, but it was clean and functional.

The toiletries provided were basic but sufficient, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and shower gel. The shower had good water pressure, and the shower booth was spacious.

Restaurant Review of Hotel Du Nord

The restaurant at Hotel Du Nord is conveniently located near the reception area on the first floor. The staff were very helpful during check-in and provided clear directions to the restaurant. The interior has a sophisticated café-like atmosphere, offering a cozy and relaxed dining experience.

Hotel Du Nord Breakfast Food Review

For those who love Korean or Japanese foods, the selection might seem a bit limited as the breakfast is entirely Western-style.

However, for those with a more flexible palate, there are plenty of delicious options. The breakfast includes:

  • Croissants: Thick and crunchy with chunks of chocolate.
  • Sausages, Omelets, and Bacon: Light and savory, though the sausages and bacon can be quite salty.
  • Fresh Fruits and Vegetables: Depending on the season, you might find cherry tomatoes and watermelon.
  • Yogurt: Fresh plain, strawberry, and blueberry yogurt.
  • Cereals: A variety of cereals are available for a lighter breakfast option.

If the main breakfast dishes don’t appeal to you, mixing cereals with yogurt can be surprisingly filling and a good way to start your day.

Beverage Options

The breakfast buffet includes a variety of juices, but our favorites were orange juice and mango juice.

Overall Breakfast Experience

Compared to other hotels, especially from our previous trip to Zermatt, Hotel Du Nord offers a similar range of breakfast items. While it may not suit everyone’s taste, especially those who consider bread and other light items more of a snack, it’s a delightful option for those who enjoy a Western-style breakfast. Bread lovers and those who enjoy brunch-style meals will likely find it particularly satisfying.

The blueberry yogurt at Hotel Du Nord was especially memorable. Since returning to Korea, we’ve tried to find a similar yogurt but haven’t been able to match the taste we enjoyed there.

If you’re planning a stay at Hotel Du Nord in Interlaken and wondering about the breakfast, this review should help you decide whether to include it in your plans.

Overall Satisfaction

Overall, we were very satisfied with the hotel’s condition and service. The only downside was the slow Wi-Fi, which made uploading photos and videos to the cloud quite slow. Despite this, Hotel Du Nord was an excellent choice for our stay in Interlaken.
