Introduction
Suncheon Tammae Village, filled not with the typical white plum blossoms but with vibrant red plum blossoms, welcomed visitors, signaling the arrival of spring.
This village, where tourists gradually gather, became a destination during my Suncheon trip. Honestly, when I think of Suncheon, it’s usually about Suncheon Bay Wetland, Nakaneupseong, and drama sets.
However, I stumbled upon this place while searching for information on how many plum blossoms were blooming in Jeonnam.
Suncheon Tammae Village Information
- Address: 224 Maegok-gil, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do (Center of Hong Plum Blossom Street, Kyungrodang)
- Parking: Limited parking space, street parking required
Located on the outskirts of Suncheon’s downtown area, it resembles Seoul’s Bukchon Hanok Village, positioned on a hillside.
It’s advisable to visit by car, although the neighborhood is small and densely populated with old houses, making parking somewhat challenging.
Parking here can be quite tricky, and on weekends, heavy traffic from visiting tourists may congest nearby roads. It’s recommended to arrive as early as possible.
As of March 5, 2023, over 60% of the blossoms had bloomed, so by the time you read this, there should be quite a few in full bloom.
Red plum trees are planted along the path marked on the map. Just a reference, but it gives you a rough idea of the route when you visit.
Embarking on a Tour around the Village
As I parked in the village, I began to explore the surroundings. Being relatively new as a tourist destination, there are hardly any commercial buildings; instead, the village is filled with old houses.
Amidst this, the scent of the red plum blossoms, blooming vibrantly, permeated the air, piercing through my mask, reminiscent of stepping into a flower shop.
Getting Lost in the Blossoms
Most of the trees were in a state where only a few plum blossoms had bloomed. Nevertheless, witnessing this level of flowers at the end of winter felt incredibly rewarding. While the plum blossoms were not yet in full bloom, my spirits soared.
Diverse Attractions
In clusters where plum blossoms bloom profusely, the number of red plum blossoms is usually quite low compared to white plum blossoms.
However, here, over 95% are covered with red plum blossoms, allowing ample opportunity to admire them.
As you leisurely stroll through the village, you can also appreciate various sculptures and artworks that contribute to revitalizing the area.
Many tourists flock here, a testament to the efforts of the local government to rejuvenate the village.
Capturing the Stunning Spring Scenery of Tammae village
The red plum blossoms in the tranquil neighborhood ignited my passion for photography, particularly as this place has yet to be heavily commercialized.
It’s a common trend in our country’s tourist destinations that once they become popular, cafes and other commercial establishments pop up, altering the original landscape.
Yet, here, the untouched beauty of the scenery remains.
Strolling Through the Village and Taking Photos
You can easily spot trees lining the streets, even without actively seeking out areas where plum blossoms bloom. Particularly, this area with the walls erected serves as the most famous photo spot in Tammae Village.
A Retreat of Relaxation: Tammae village
It takes about 30 minutes to explore the entire village, but if you’re keen on photography, you might spend up to an hour immersing yourself in the scenery of red plum blossoms.
Moreover, being close to downtown, you can conclude your flower viewing and head to nearby eateries for a meal, making it a perfect date itinerary.
With Suncheon becoming a popular travel destination, why not plan a visit to Tammae Village to enjoy the beginning of spring marked by the blooming red plum blossoms?
