Waon Beach Sunset: Exploring Tranquility in Suncheon

Introduction

I’m glad to introduce one of my favorite sunset spots in South Korea, Suncheon’s Waon Beach.

When we think of sunset spots in Jeollanam-do, many may think of places like Yeosu, famous for its islands and various sunset viewpoints. However, it’s hard to find a place as stunning as Waon Beach, surrounded by islands and landmasses, offering a mirror-like sea during calm weather, perfect for enjoying a beautiful sunset.

As the tide recedes, revealing expansive mudflats, Waon Beach becomes an ideal spot to capture breathtaking sunset photos. Let’s explore the scenery!

Location and Visiting Information of Suncheon’s Waon Beach

  1. Address: 133 Waon-gil, Haeryong-myeon, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do
  2. Admission: Free
  3. Parking: Nearby grounds and parking lots available for free

Waon Beach is relatively lesser-known and less crowded compared to other places. However, it has gained popularity as a sunset destination in recent years, attracting many visitors during sunset hours.

Initially lacking in facilities like cafes and convenience stores, the area has seen improvements, making it more convenient for travelers. Nonetheless, due to limited public transportation, I recommend visiting by car!

Sunset times vary significantly depending on the season, so it’s essential to check the sunset time beforehand.

Sunset Timing of Waon beach

I recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before the scheduled sunset time. Typically, the listed sunset time indicates when the sun begins to touch the horizon. Arriving early allows you to capture not only the sunset but also the stunning sky as the sun descends behind the mountains.

Sunset Scenery

While the view of the beach filled with seawater is beautiful, I particularly enjoy the sight of exposed mudflats, creating unique patterns and channels, perfect for photography. Walking along the shore during sunset is truly delightful, especially with fewer crowds, allowing for a peaceful stroll.

Exploring the area, you’ll find small ports and breakwaters. Walking along these breakwaters offers an even better view of the sunset. Many visitors enjoy strolling along them, but caution is advised, especially in the evening to avoid accidents.

Unfortunately, during subsequent visits, I noticed that the air quality deteriorated due to heavy fine dust, making it more challenging to witness such beautiful sunsets again. I long to see the sunset as vividly as before, with the sun shining brightly before disappearing beyond the horizon.

As the sun sets completely, along with the enchanting colors of the sky, capturing the reflection of the sea is a must! Depending on the tide, some areas reveal mudflats, while others start to fill with water, creating a stunning mirror-like effect. Exploring different spots allows you to experience varying landscapes, even on the same day!

Conclusion

Trip to Suncheon with Waon Beach! After exploring attractions like Suncheon Garden Exhibition Hall and Suncheon Bay, Waon Beach is the perfect place to end your day in Suncheon. Experience the sunset at Waon Beach, but remember, good weather is crucial for a more picturesque sunset. Make sure to check the weather forecast before heading out!
